He dragged himself through the morning commute, the city's relentless energy feeling like a hostile force. The train's jostling only worsened the ache in his shoulders and the thick fog in his brain. Thomas felt like a puppet whose strings had become tangled, unable to move with any real grace. He'd been stuck in logistics for far too long.

His new assignment: the research and development department. He recalled the email from his supervisor – "A fresh perspective," it had declared. He doubted he had much perspective left.

The thought of new faces and a new environment barely registered. It was all noise. He just wanted to sleep, to escape the constant pressure of deadlines and expectations that felt like they were pressing down on him, crushing him.
